Why shouldn't we all be ourselves and write what the damn well we like?

Plenty of very insightful comments here but all I can offer is this quote, "You cannot please ALL of the people ALL of the time. You can only please SOME of the people SOME of the time." (I think I remembered that correctly!!!).

It is also true, if our writing doesn't inspire comments both positive AND negative, we probably aren't doing our job correctly.
