Legendary TV Interviewer Michael Parkinson Leaves Behind Many Memories as He Passes Away Today
Sadly, today, we have to mark the passing of a legend of British broadcasting—Michael Parkinson, or ‘Sir’ Michael as he became in 2008.
Who was Sir Michael? Well, of course, I never met him, but I’d like to think I knew him very well as so many others mainly through his weekly television interview show.
In my early years, his show “Parkinson” seemed to be a fixture of Saturday night viewing. Coming towards the end of the evening, normally after our football highlights show, Match of the Day, it always seemed to be there and was a gentle mix of friendly chat and musical entertainment.
I was quite young when it first made our screens, so I was only aware of its existence because my family would be watching. However, even the early years stay in my memory with some stand out moments.
As I became older, I was taken more and more by the interesting tales that were told each week by these stars who were encouraged to relax and just chat.
I won’t list the many achievements of Sir Michael in this piece because there will be other articles published today that will do the job far more comprehensibly than I can. What I would like to do is just take a trip down memory lane, as I recall.
